Also know as Greenhaven Apple Orchard, Dittmar’s Apples on Alamo Pintado Road in Solvang, is the perfect place to get fresh picked apples between August and December. One of just a handful of apple orchards in Santa Barbara County, Dittmar’s was the first orchard in the Santa Ynez Valley and dates back to the 1970′s. Today, they have more than 675 trees and 10 different varieties.
Apples are picked fresh daily to ensure freshness and when stored in the refrigerator, packaged in their plastic bag, they will maintain their freshness for months. Different apple varieties are harvested at different times, but at any given time, Dittmar’s generally have about four different varieties for tasting and purchase. Varieties include Royal Gala, Akane, Jonagold, Sommerfeld, Crispin, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Sun Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady.
Doug Dittmar hangs around (literally…in his hammock) everyday from 10am to 5pm during the apple harvest season to sell his apples at his roadside stand under an ancient oak tree.

We went by this orchard as we we have in years past—great place. Very good apples, sweet and tasty. Well worth a visit.
